SMU Megacamp Standouts

This week — we attended SMU’s Megacamp hosted on SMU’s campus. The camp is designed to bring in some of the top talent in the region to come out and showcase their ability in front of dozens of college football scouts. This year at camp, schools like the University of Michigan, LSU, and the University of Oregon — all had scouts/coaches in attendance.

Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to cover every session, however, through our coverage of session 4 — we were able to identify the three most outstanding defensive backs at the session.

There was plenty of talent in the building, but these three prospects stole the show.

Paxton Williams

Williams of Denton Guyer High School stands at 5’11, 185 pounds. In drills, Williams was smooth in his backpedal and explosive on his downhill breaks. He flashed great hip fluidity and ball skills in drills as well.

When 1v1s came around — Williams only boosted his stock. Showing the ability to play press man and mirror receivers at the line of scrimmage. Williams flashed his versatility working in the slot. The SMU staff was encouraged by how well he was able to stay in the hip pocket of receivers and finish by making a play on the ball. Due to an ankle injury, Williams did not participate in the 40 yard dash but is documented to have run a 4.53 at SMU’s Megacamp last year as a rising junior.

Big Ideas, Real Impact.
